Treats for the Eyes

It's been a little flat of late, so to get my kicks outside of work I've been digesting this lovely little blog by photographer Morgan Maassen. Have a browse, reminds me that we have a lovely warm Summer coming.

Flora Day

Gul St Ives told us that it was a bit quiet in town due to Flora day in Helston. We here in Bude got a bit excited at the prospect of a day devoted to a brand of butter-substitute. Wild thoughts crossed our minds as to the nature of the day and what it might entail. We even considered picking up a few loaves and heading down to the fun.
Although a little deflated when we found out the truth, it still sounds like a tub of laughs.

The Gul Night Surf Contest

Surfing at night, generally, is for drunk teenagers, special forces or die hard 'Point Break' enthusiasts. By and large it is not a safe pursuit, just like juggling with hungry ferrets or playing kiss-chase with lorries isn't.

That said, there is an exception to the rule. And if you're twiddling your thumbs on the weekend of the 18th-20th of June, you could go and watch a bunch of people who know exactly what they're doing surf (very well) in the early Summer darkness at The Gul Night Surf contest at Fistral Beach in Newquay.
Music, fireworks, massive lights and beaming smiles.
And no rain, as it's banned.

Gawd Bless Nan

We love Emmas nan.
As seems the theme with all doting grannies, the urge to bulk out the grandkids is overwhelming. As a result, she packs Emma's daily lunch box with high-calorie cheese and chocolatey treats. Invariably, Emma, who enjoys wearing stuff like this, passes on these belt-worrying morsels of joy to the sheer delight of Tom & I.

We love Nana because Nana's a feeder.

Leopallooza 2010

Summer is but an itchy gnat bite away, and no Summer in North Cornwall is complete without the sublime Leopallooza Festival. Taking place on Saturday 31st July, and now in it's 5th year, it will be hosting acts as diverse as The King Blues and Eliza Doolittle.
As always, there'll be touches of the unexpected... rumours of a 'Rockstar Graveyard' abound. As do the 'Breakfast in Bed' whispers....
We're stoked to be the main stockist of Leopallooza tickets here in Bude. They're £20 each, for 12 hours of music, 20 bands and free camping. Kids under 10 go free.
They're also available from the Gul Stores in Padstow, Plymouth, Newquay and Truro.
