There's quite a famous spot up near Bude. Famous, and yet I'm not supposed to name it. Technically, it's still regarded as a "secret spot", though this is debatable. It appears in British surf mags almost every month. Although I'm not an adherent of the whole Secret Spot mentality, I am a strict believer that it's nicer to go out and find these places by yourself. Checking for landmarks in the pictures then unfolding the ratty OS map and trying to place them. Modern day treasure hunting. Here's a shot of my friend Olly riding this particular secret spot near Bude yesterday morning...
...we hope. These shots are from the last couple of days (although not yesterday morning... no-one wants to see pictures of sideways rain in late July.) Look hard behind our little winged friend below - yeah, that's a reeling left-hander...
Not content with having the only exploding toilet in the South West, Gul Plymouth expressed a very real desire to come and steal our beloved swing sign. They're currently having a very beautiful refit and we here in Bude think they may try and half-inch our sign to be the cherry on top of their new decor cake.
Not a chance.
To increase security I duly ordered Tom up our most rickety stepladder (oh don't fret - I was holding it) to superglue the catches. In doing so he does now have a little less skin on his fingers than an hour ago. He whined a bit about this.
As we concentrate on shop floor business this grey but increasingly brighter BH Monday, here's a little flick that came about from the sublime 16mm treat that was Singlefin: Yellow by Jason Baffa. He's since made One California Day, another top movie that captures the essence of the great State. And even better: we stock it here.
We've got a new recruit to the Bude Chapter. His name is Tom, and he is the new Assistant Manager. He knows a lot about food, makes a good cup of joe, and in his spare time he shapes very odd looking surfboards.
He also wears skinny jeans and carries it off.
Sadly though, Action Man found it necessary to steal Toms thunder in this picture.
Sunday morning in Bude and the Spring sunshine is high and warm. We took the rain jackets off the mannequins (no need for them today we hope - but the chickens remain to be counted) and now have a few personal favourites up in the window. Here's one of our little likes for the day - it's been doing the rounds on facebook for a year or so, but it never fails to please however many times we watch it. It's also got a very Sunday sounding soundtrack, courtesy of Megan Washington. Have a great day, do drop by.
